B E L L Y - T I M E

Just an update to share my new belly pic and any symptoms. Can you believe it's been a week already since my last belly pic?! Fortunately, the bloating went down a little bit this morning; but believe me, my belly is usually way bigger than this! Wanna know what's making me so bloated? Progesterone! If you're really that interested, read the last paragraph.

(To compare this week's pic to last week's, click on the link on the side of the page that says, "Belly Pics".)

Symptoms This Week: Cramps and Bloating.

The cramps have been daily and were a bit stronger over the weekend. I generally like to feel them because it makes me feel like things are progressing. However, sometimes they're rather strong and I do get a bit scared. I know, I need to chill out and worry less. yeah yeah.

The bloating, as I mentioned before, has been ridiculous. Sometimes it makes me feel like I've already gained a million pounds. You know how right when you're done eating a large meal it sometimes looks like you're 3 months pregnant, and you need to take a deep breath and unbutton your pants? Well, that's how I've been looking and feeling all the time. lol. Mostly, it's just uncomfortable, as I'm sure you can imagine.

This morning when I was driving to work, I was thinking about how I haven't felt any nausea since sometime last week. Then I popped a piece of cinnamon gum in my mouth (yes, Joshie replaced my gum) and took back that thought. It was enough to turn my stomach and make me gag for about 30 minutes. Ugh. I'm expecting it to get worse over the next couple weeks, but I may surprise myself and be one of the girls who misses out on morning sickness.

"It almost seems that your jeans start to feel snug as soon as the pregnancy test comes back positive — and you can thank the hormone progesterone for that puffy phenomenon. While progesterone is essential for maintaining a healthy pregnancy (it is, after all, the pro-gestation hormone), it also triggers that oh-so-delightful trio: bloating, burping, and farting. Why? Progesterone causes the smooth muscle tissue in your body (including the gastrointestinal tract) to relax. This slows down digestion, giving the nutrients from food you eat more time to enter your bloodstream and reach your baby. That's the good news. The bad news is this slower metabolism can cause bloating. "
